Welcome to Des Moines, Iowa
Greetings fellow CVA’ers! Sun’s out, fun’s out! Things are heating up in the Greater Des Moines region. It also means that it is time for the 42nd Annual Crown Victoria Association National Convention. The event will be held at the West Des Moines Marriott, located at 1250 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, IA from July 26th to August 1st, 2020.
The rooms are at a bargain rate of $99.00 per night! The hotel is one and a half miles from a huge mall complex with over fifty of your favorite restaurants within walking distance.
We will start the convention off on Sunday, July 26th with our Welcome Dinner from 6:00-7:30pm. On Monday, we will take a short drive to Winterset, Iowa for two fantastic tours. First, we will be stopping at the John Wayne Museum. For those of you who didn’t know, but John Wayne was born in Winterset and there is a nice little museum there with some of his memorabilia and one of his automobiles. For the second tour on Monday, we will be taking a tour of some covered bridges around Winterset. Winterset is the County seat of Madison County. Yes….that Madison County. The movie The Bridges of Madison County was filmed here and the covered bridges that we will see were in the movie.
On Tuesday, we will be driving to downtown Des Moines to experience some Iowa culture and history. I have arranged for us to visit the State Museum of Iowa and then take a tour of the Iowa State Capital, which is next door to each other.
Wednesday will be a special treat that I am cooking up. No, I am not cooking but it will involve food. In Boone, Iowa (the home of our own Bill Jepsen) has a Railroad Museum that we will tour. In addition to touring the museum, we will be taking about an hour and a half ride around the Iowa countryside on a train. Lunch will be served on the train ride. I told you that there would be food involved. Wednesday night will also feature our annual dance. I am working on a really special band to play for us and will make the announcement of who it is once the details have been finalized.
Thursday will be our car show in the parking lot. If you are able to bring your car, I encourage it. We want to pack the parking lot! Our Annual Auction will be held on Thursday afternoon. That night, we will have our annual Party in the Parking Lot with a DJ.
This year we are going to try something different for Friday. I am not scheduling an organized tour, but I will have information in your registration packet on many of the other places to see in the area. You could also take the time to sunbathe in the parking lot, sleep in, or harass the vendors in the parking lot. And last but not least, Friday night will be our Awards Banquet.
Get your hotel reservations made and fill out those registration forms!
